Wine Pairing with Classic Halloween Movies

Just to be clear, I don't mean the scary kind. It's not for me! But if you're looking to pair a wine with your kids' favorite or you're headed back to your childhood (plus wine) I've got you covered! Here's a list of a few of my favorite Halloween movies and the perfect wine to go with!

Hocus Pocus

If I didn't go with a blend alongside this sister trio, what would I even be thinking? Keep it simple and grab 14 Hands Hot to Trot Red Blend or if you want to take it to the next level, go for a Meritage - a classic Bordeaux style red blend! Grab a pizza for this one and be sure it has a nice garlic-y crust to keep the Sanderson Sisters right where they belong - away from you.

Beetlejuice

There's something irresistibly unique about Beetlejuice which is exactly how I feel about Gerürztraminer. An aromatic varietal full of personality, just like Beetlejuice. My favorite is the Dry Gewürztraminer at McGregor Vineyards. Can't find a good Gewürz or feeling overwhelmed by this varietal? Riesling is a more commonly known aromatic white that can please just about anyone with styles ranging from dry to sweet! The snack options here are so good! Grab yourself a big ol' bowl of buttery popcorn with a shake of truffle salt on top or if you opted for a sweeter style wine make it dessert with a Pumpkin Pie Blizzard!

The Addams Family

Dark, bold, and full of character, a bottle of Malbec is perfect to pair with all the personalities that make up the Addams Family. I feel like Morticia will really appreciate a velvety red, and Syrah and Grenache are other good options for full-bodied reds to match these characters. With my Malbec, I'm getting down on a mushroom-y, blue cheese-y burger and I'm loving my night on the couch. While at Target, you can grab this Catena, a classic expression of a Mendoza Malbec.

Ghostbusters

It's dry. It's a little weird. I'm kind of not into it but also can't resist it. Yup, it's Chardonnay. Perfect to pair with Ghostbusters - a classic, although I think at one time or another we've all questioned what makes it so great (lol me with Chardonnay). But there's just something about the dry humor of Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray that keeps us coming back for more, just as the complexity and diversity of Chardonnays keep me coming back for more! This Chateau Ste. Michelle Chardonnay will be easy to grab at Target or if you don't love full-bodied, oaky, and buttery Chardonnays, try an unoaked style like Kendall-Jackson Avant Unoaked Chardonnay! I'm pairing this one with a creamy chicken pot pie soup and I think it's all going to feel juuuust right.

Casper

For this friendly ghost who is not totally dead, but not totally alive, we will enjoy with a glass of rosé! You know, not totally white, but not totally red. On your weekly Target run be sure to grab a bottle of La Vieille Ferme rosé or try another Finger Lakes favorite of mine, Dry Rosé from Billsboro Winery! And for one of my favorite pairings, go for the House Wine Rosé bubbles and try the Chipotle BBQ Popcorn from Pop Daddy Snacks. You won't regret it! I don't know about you, but this list has me ready to hit the couch for a solid night in! Cheers!
